Walk for Water 2011- Decatur Alabama

This year, First Bible Church of Decatur, Alabama was blessed to have our 3rd annual Walk for Water. It was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 30, but due to Alabama tornado devastation, it was postponed to Saturday, May 21. This additional time was beneficial in further spreading awareness for the cause for Kenya. When that Saturday morning rolled around, 60 or more people coming from 7 or more churches gathered together to experience a small taste of what Kenyans go through daily to collect water.

Our plan was to trek 2.5 miles to the Tennessee River, fill our 1 gallon jugs, and journey 2.5 miles back. However, due to blocked river access, we walked a little farther to collect water. This caused our route to total to approximately 6 miles.

Participants brought their raised money on the day of the walk. This money, along with donations and profit from t-shirts and a Chick-Fil-A spirit night, totaled to $6002.32.

This event continues to open my eyes to the blessings God has poured out on our nation. I am so grateful for the opportunities the 410 Bridge provides for sharing these blessings and pouring out the love of Christ. Our theme verse for the walk was John 7:37-38, “Jesus stood and said, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’” We thought this verse displayed that while we want to help fund clean water, our ultimate goal is to provide a means to share the living water found in Christ.

Lord willing, this event will continue to occur, and we can continue to support the 410 Bridge. All praise and glory be to God, for great things he has done!

Building People, Not Just Buildings: A New Way to Think About Mission Trips
