Special Need: Heart Surgery For Esther

Esther - A student In Karima in need of heart surgery

One of the great benefits of the 410 Bridge model is the depth of relationship that is built with the communities we serve.  As we walk through the development journey with them, we celebrate when they celebrate and we mourn when they mourn.  Our role is to walk along side of them, support them, and encourage them as they lead the way.  On occasion a situation arises within a community where we have the opportunity to give immediate help and meet an urgent need in a healthy and empowering way.

We recently received a request from the community of Karima, for financial assistance to help a young girl in need of a potentially life-saving surgery.  Esther is a 15 year-old girl in standard 8 at Kawamaitha Primary School.  She was recently diagnosed with a heart condition that requires immediate surgery.  Esther’s parents are casual laborers and are unable to pay the medical bills associated with the surgery.  The community of Karima and local churches are working hard to raise funds to help support this family, and have already aided in the funding of the initial doctors visits.  The community fundraising efforts, while beneficial, are slow going and immediate assistance is needed.

We are hoping to raise $2,000 to help Esther and her family with the surgery and associated expenses.  If you would like to be a part of this opportunity to bless Esther, her family, and the community of Karima please click the link below to make your contribution.

That was some early advice from my friend, Lanny, and it held the test of time. It’s important to keep a lookout for people suddenly crossing your path – God just might be introducing you to someone special. So, when Chris Joiner walked through our front door, I paid attention.

In 2021, Chris reached out just to have a conversation. Over a few breakfasts, Chris and I discussed our shared passion for changing the way the West church engages the poor. At the time, Chris was working for another non-profit organization, but it quickly became clear that we both sought to create a lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of the poor.

As we begin this exciting journey as an organization, I want to share more about who I am, my heart for our mission, and where we are headed this year.
