Today, more details on the trucking accident in Ngaamba were released.
There were 70 people (both children and parents) on the truck which rolled off the road into a ditch and overturned. 57 of the children were from Itumbule Primary School in Ngaamba. They were returning from a Catholic music festival in Makueni county.
For those of you who have visited Ngaamba, the accident took place on the opposite side of Mombasa Hwy, not on the Ngaamba/Kiu side.
5 school girls (ages 13-15) were killed in the accident. Three were from Class 8 at Itumbule and 2 were in Form One (9th grade) at Kima Secondary School.
42 people were admitted to the hospital Monday night and as of this morning, 32 are still hospitalized.
The driver was arrested on Monday night.
Many people have asked us if any BrightPoint or 2011 Daraja children were involved. While details are still coming in, we have confirmed that no BrightPoint children from Ngaamba were in the accident. Two Daraja children were on the truck but were unharmed.
Our hearts and prayers continue to go out to the people of Ngaamba, the community leaders and the families of those injured and lost. If you would like to send your prayers and condolences to the families, we welcome your emails at prayer@410bridge.org.
