Nairobi International Airport Fire

You may have heard that there was a fire in the Nairobi International Airport that broke out early this morning.  The fire is believed to have started near the immigration and baggage claim area, and temporarily shut down the airport.

I want to assure you that all of our 410 Bridge teams on the ground, and all of our staff, are safe and that we had no one in the airport during the time of the fire.

Our staff both in the U.S. and in Kenya have been monitoring the situation closely and gathering as much information as possible.  Here is what we know so far…

  • The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, but early reports suggest the fire may have been the result of a construction accident.
  • No causalities have been reported thus far.
  • The fire has been extinguished, and as of the latest report, the airport is back open for domestic and cargo flights.

We do not yet know what, if any, impact the fire will have on teams scheduled to arrive or depart Kenya in the next several days.  We are in communication with team leaders and church partners that may be affected and keeping them updated as we learn more information.

As you may know, tourism and export of goods are essential to the Kenyan economy and so we pray that the process of repairing and reopening the airport will be a quick one.

Thank you all for your support of The 410 Bridge.  We are grateful to each of you.
