My Experience in Kenya

I have just one word, to sum up my experiences and time in Kenya…AMAZING!! This has truly been a phenomenal trip!

It started with our very first training session to our goodbyes at the airport when we arrived back home. God had His hands on the team the whole time. There were no incidents, conflicts, or disagreements. We truly enjoyed spending time together and working as a team. It was an honor serving with every one of my teammates, whom I now consider family.

My favorite days were making beads with Masai women, spending “A day in the life” with a Masai family, doing evangelism in the Masai community, and spending time with the children at their school. God showed me that His hands are definitely on the Masai people and that the Holy Spirit is working on their hearts. I enjoyed the women so much, especially the elders. It was like visiting with family because they were so open and loving.

They have such a deep sense of community and never hesitate to help each other. They shopped with each other, watched each other’s children, helped build huts, and tended to a new mother’s maternal needs. I wouldn’t even call them neighbors because they behaved like family. I enjoyed helping a woman named Purity draw water from the dam, even though it was hard, and I fell in the water, lol. I wanted to do what I could, if only for a day.

The women work hard, yet they have smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts. These are the kinds of women I’ve longed to be around and learn from all my life. They were so caring, gentle, and non-judgmental.

I have had missions in my heart for a long time, and know that it is my purpose in life. I would love to do missions full-time and have promised God that I will be ready when He feels I am ready.

Serving people and learning from new cultures is a true blessing. I thank God every day for such an exceptional trip in Kenya, and the chance to see another part of the world where the people love Christ.

I cannot wait for my next trip, but until then, I’m committed to sharing the Gospel and fellowshipping with the people around me here at home. God is good!
