My Daraja Internship by Stephen

Stephen

Traveling with Daraja was an absolute blessing for me. There is something incredible that takes place when you travel for close to 3 months with the same 35 people. What happens is you become a family. There’s nothing more enjoyable than seeing the bright smiling faces of 23 Kenyan children every morning, trading hugs, sharing laughs and worshiping together throughout each day. Through their genuine care for myself and others, these children of The Daraja Choir allowed me to catch a glimpse of God’s love for His people. It was through their encouraging words, powerful embraces, wall-to-wall smiles and selfless actions that I began to understand not only how it felt to be genuinely loved but also that this was something that I too was capable of. The relationships that are built, with not only the kids but also with your fellow chaperones , are ones that I have no doubt will last a lifetime and to me, there’s nothing more beautiful than when the body of Christ, His church, comes together from all around the world for the purpose of making Him known!

Much love because of Him,
Stephen

A Note from Our Founder

If we’ve spent any time together, you’ve probably heard me this before: pay attention to who walks through the front door.

That was some early advice from my friend, Lanny, and it held the test of time. It’s important to keep a lookout for people suddenly crossing your path – God just might be introducing you to someone special. So, when Chris Joiner walked through our front door, I paid attention.

In 2021, Chris reached out just to have a conversation. Over a few breakfasts, Chris and I discussed our shared passion for changing the way the West church engages the poor. At the time, Chris was working for another non-profit organization, but it quickly became clear that we both sought to create a lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of the poor.
