Meet Moses “Zhangi” Mwangi!

I met Moses (“Zhangi”) in 2007.  He was a chaperone and the original choreographer for the first Daraja Children’s Choir tour.   I had the opportunity to host Zhangi in our home and we stayed up late one night to chat.  It was during that chat that I heard his story…

Moses was raised by his grandmother in a suburb of Nairobi.  He was basically on his own.  He attended primary school, but like most Kenyan children, he could not afford the fees required for secondary school (high school).

Moses had a heart for God and found refuge in the local church.  The pastor gave Moses odd jobs to help sustain him as well as provide him with a bit of mentoring.  Amazingly, Moses decided to earn his secondary school certification on his own.  He would work at the church or find odd jobs during the day and teach himself secondary school at night.  After several years, he sat for the standardized national test and passed with high marks.  Soon after he found a job as a travel coordinator for a Christian organization sending mission teams to Kenya.

After hearing Moses’ story, it was clear that he was smart, driven and committed.  We hired him as our full-time logistics coordinator shortly after the 2007 Daraja Choir tour ended.

Moses is full of energy.  He loves people and he loves his job as Travel Logistics Coordinator.  His smile is contagious and everyone that meets Moses finds a new friend…

At the 410 Bridge, we work through the community leaders who ensure continuity of the community’s development even after graduation. During our partnership journey, we walk alongside indigenous community leaders and church leaders as they mobilize and unify the community to participate in their own development – shifting their perspectives and owning the solutions.

Serving with Joy: A Week in Mutirithia, Kenya

If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Kenya, allow me to do my best to try to put into words what an incredible life-changing experience that you really need to do at least once in your life.

I was recently blessed to travel to Mutirithia, Kenya with an amazing group of 20 other Christian men to serve the families in that community over the course of a week.

We prepared for weeks to make sure everyone understood the primary objective of the trip, which was to build upon relationships already formed in the community and to spread the Word to as many people as we could.

Allow me to unfold a day-by-day glimpse of what we experienced:
