Kenya-Somalia Update

Family and friends,

Some of you may be aware of news reports describing conflict on the Kenya / Somalia border. We are aware of the reports and the warning from the US Embassy.

Kurt Kandler, our Executive Director spoke with our staff in Kenya at 11:30a EST today. The issue is not in the local papers or being talked about locally. To our knowledge, there have been no reports of violence related to this situation anywhere in Nairobi or near any 410 Bridge community. Areas of concern are reportedly hotels and shopping malls which our teams do not visit. As an extra precaution, for the time being, all teams will avoid the Java House, Giraffe Park, and other places in Nairobi that might be of concern. Andrew Guuru, our Kenyan Country Director said Kenyans are not concerned about the situation and that he was surprised to hear that the US Embassy would issue such an announcement.

With that said, things could change at any time and we will remain in contact with our staff and continually monitor the latest available information.

Currently, teams that are on the ground this week are still on track to travel home as previously scheduled. Upcoming teams are still on track to travel in early November.

We will continue to send out updates as relevant information is received.
