Community Update: KWAMBEKENYA, KENYA

Heading into the summer and with many of you traveling to our 410 Bridge Communities in Kenya, we would love to share the most recent updates to the communities so that you are aware of what changes and growth has happened this year so far…

The following is information covered with our Kwambekenya Community church partners. We hope that all of you who have visited Kwambekenya will be encouraged at the growth and health in this community! (sorry there aren’t any pictures!)

Projects:

  • Classblock at Kiambariki- a building with 3 classrooms is nearing completion.  The walls are being plastered and ceilings being installed. It is hoped to be open when school resumes in May. The plan is to split three classes reducing congestion in those classrooms.  This will ease the burden on the teachers with the number of children they teach and hopefully improve the quality of education.
  • There are 6 teachers at the school being supported by Brightpoint for Children and also tuition for weekends is funded by BPFC.
  • The ECD classrooms are nearing completion.  The 410 Bridge funded a remodel at the old building but the parents felt they wanted to contribute so decided to build a new building and not use the old one.  The building is near completion with the walls and rafters in place.  The parents are raising funds for the metal roof so the building should be completed very soon.
  • Tables, chairs and a book shelf are being built for the ECD classes and should be ready when the building is finished.
  • Camp Highlands Outpost- an experiential learning facility was built near the clinic by Camp Highlands and Solid Source Realty. It will be used to train leaders, families, pastors and students in leadership and team building.  A team from Camp Highlands along with many youth from the area worked for 4 days and have almost completed the 10 elements of the project.  Facilitators will be trained and groups wil then begin using the course.
  • United Womens Group- now that the rains have started again the women have planted fodder to feed the cows.  Milk is being sold from the producing cows.  The calves seem to be more on the male side so these are sold and females purchased.  The women meet on Wednesdays to fellowship and pray.

Planned projects:

  • Water solution.  The community has planned a water catchment project from the mountain and piping to the community (about 7 KM).  We are also looking at a borehole solution at the clinic site which is a proven entity based on the Karima water project success.  We are in the process of sorting this issue out with the LC and will reach a decision very soon.  Both projects would deliver water to an elevated tower tank at the clinic which would then gravity feed water down to the community.  There is no public land in the community proper to put a tank on so the clinic is the option we will use.
  • There will be a need for an additional classblock at Kiambariki in 2012.
  • Bibles for each home and all students in Kwambekenya
  • Textbooks are needed for the school for all classes.
  • Rejoice- in 2012 we will begin the Rejoice project in the school here.  This is a virtue program taught in the schools on a regular basis.
