We loved reading about Claire’s trip to Figuier! Have a story to share? Send it to us at stories@410bridge.org.
When we first arrived in Figuier, my team and I stepped off the bus not sure how to feel. It’s my first time being here, I don’t speak the language, I don’t know how to communicate with the Haitians. I walked onto the beach and some little hands grabbed mine. I looked down and saw the sweetest of faces. Little did I know this precious girl and I would be inseparable this whole week!
We walked through the community, taking a tour of the hospital, jail, and everywhere in between. I held the little ones hand not knowing what to do or say, until we came across a goat. The goat made the “Bah-ah-ah-ah” noise and I copied it to the best of my ability. Well my sweet girl, Ellan, thought that was just hysterical, and she copied the goat too.
We went on like that the entire walk, mimicking the many animal noises Haiti has to offer: ducks, chicken, sheep, birds. You name it, we did it, and the best part was that we connected even without words. I didn’t have to say anything. Ellan and I found ourselves laughing and making animal noises just because we could, thats where we could understand each other. That day I found myself pondering how amazing our God is, we all love and can connect with Him, His love is universal.
