A Note from Our Founder

Welcoming a New Season at The 410 Bridge

If we’ve spent any time together, you’ve probably heard me say this before: “Pay attention to who walks through the front door. “

That was some early advice from my friend, Lanny, and it held the test of time. It’s important to keep a lookout for people suddenly crossing your path – God just might be introducing you to someone special. So, when Chris Joiner walked through our front door, I paid attention.

In 2021, Chris reached out just to have a conversation. Over a few breakfasts, Chris and I discussed our shared passion for changing the way the West church engages the poor. At the time, Chris was working for another non-profit organization, but it quickly became clear that we both sought to create a lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of the poor.

Reflecting on our conversation, I remember Chris asking all the right questions – questions focused on change, transformation, and real impact. In fairly short order, it was evident that Chris wasn’t just eager to learn; he was a true servant leader. I knew then he had the right heart and mindset for the work we do. A year after our conversation, our organization was blessed to have Chris join our team as Director of International Programs.

Since then, Chris has had a tremendous impact on our organization. He became President of 410 Bridge a year after his arrival and I’ve watched him lead with integrity, think creatively, act as a team player, and keep Jesus Christ at the center of everything he does. When I think about where Chris will lead our organization as CEO, I am encouraged and excited. His ability to lead with a glass-half-full – if not overflowing! – attitude will help us find innovative ways to meet the challenges our partner communities face, leading to even greater impact.

410 Bridge is the Model

You may be wondering what this announcement means for me.

When I established The 410 Bridge, it was my goal to positively disrupt the non-profit industry. In this space, there are thousands of organizations all focused on helping the poor – and yet not all of them are effective. In fact, many are doing more long-term harm than short-term good. So… we set out to create a model that focuses on sustainable change, where the poor can experience a mindset shift and take a proactive role in changing their own lives.

Within our model, we engage the Church (on both sides of the bridge) as an active partner in empowering our communities. We believe the Church has a God-given responsibility to care for the poor – not only by meeting their physical needs but also nurturing their spiritual growth. Much like the non-profit industry, many well-wishers believe they are helping, but they too fall short of creating sustainable change. The 410 Bridge’s partners invest in communities for the long term, offering support through sustained donations, mission trips, and, most importantly, discipleship development. This approach fosters lasting, sustainable change, with the Church playing a central role in these efforts.

As I transition from day-to-day operations, I remain focused on championing this mission as Chairman of the Board for The 410 Bridge and Executive Director of the Global Outreach Network. Our unique approach to engaging the Western Church is becoming a model for global missions. By continuing to partner with churches in the U.S. and strengthening those relationships, we are building a movement of people who are committed to making a real, lasting difference through Christ-centered community development. I am excited for the work ahead and full of anticipation for the impact we will make together.

Thank you for being with us on the journey, we could not do this work without your support and your prayers.

Please join me in welcoming and praying for Chris Joiner as he assumes this new role. The best is yet to come.

Many blessings,

Kurt Kandler

When Faith Becomes Action: The Story of Los Jazmines

Two years ago, in a small community in Guatemala, a group of women and two gentlemen took a bold step of faith. They didn’t have a business plan or financial background. What they had was a shared desire—for something different, something better. They wanted to grow. They wanted to believe. And most of all, they wanted to act on their faith.

That’s how Los Jazmines was born.

At first, it was a simple savings group, supported by 410 Bridge. A place where members could learn to manage money and build a safety net. But it didn’t stay simple for long. It quickly transformed into something much deeper—a place of prayer, discipleship, encouragement, and miracles.

Bringing Urgent Relief to Nicaragua’s Flooded Communities

In the remote villages along the rivers of Nicaragua, life is changing—and not for the better.

Recent floods have devastated entire communities, displacing families, destroying food supplies, and washing away crops that were meant to sustain them for months to come. The villages of Makantaka, Makantakita, Company Crick, Dakban, Guadalupe, Kansas City, Betania, Angloamerica, and La Esperanza have been hit especially hard. Over 80 families in each village are now facing an uncertain future.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen flooding in this region—but those on the ground are calling this situation uniquely devastating.

Homes are unlivable. Crops are gone. Hunger is growing.

The Story of Edy Josué Ruiz

When Edy Josué Ruiz arrived at the rehabilitation center in 2018, his life was marked by loneliness and the pain of his father’s absence. He didn’t speak, didn’t play, and found refuge in silence. But God had a plan for him.

The rehabilitation center provided the support he needed through speech therapy, motor skills development, and psychological counseling. However, it was the love and faith he encountered there that truly transformed his heart. Thanks to the therapists and their dedication, Edy began to open up—he learned to speak, to smile, and most importantly, to find peace through his faith in Jesus.

Community leaders also played a key role in Edy and his mother’s journey. Through their constant support, prayers, and encouragement, they offered spiritual and emotional strength. The community became a fundamental pillar in his transformation.
