On a recent beautiful spring afternoon in Leveque, Haiti, competition was fierce as a large crowd cheered on the Deaf vs Hearing soccer teams in the first community “football” game. Following the game, residents gathered in a huge circle to sing praise songs and to pray in English, Sign Language and Creole. On what has become a regular Tuesday afternoon activity, much anticipated by all, the teams have grown to include several age brackets and both male and female players. The whole community comes together and cheers for their favorite teams, which is a wonderful sight to behold.
